Kassandra is a tragic and misunderstood character from ancient Greek mythology.  Most literary accounts describe her as being a fierce, knowledgeable, and undeterred woman given the gift of prophecy—with a horrible caveat: She was not to be believed.

Despite her unfortunate fate, Kassandra stands as a reminder of what happens when we fail to trust. In many contexts, women are still perceived by many as being somehow deficit.  We may not be seen as reliable, resilient, or strong.  We may not seen as having the qualities necessary for high leadership positions. Subconsciously or consciously, women are not always trusted—even by each other.

There are assigned roles and desired traits dictated by our gender (the concept of gender itself is another complex discussion) and have been accepted and reproduced.  Our hope is to question and subvert these perceptions by examining how we respond to Kassandra: the symbol of unrequited understanding.
